New Jennifer Lawrence movie takes hit

Passengers is a great all-around movie. Jennifer Lawrence brings yet again, another action-filled movie full of adventure. With a small cast, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are the center of attention.

The Starship Avalon, in its 120-year voyage to a distant colony, Homestead II, and transporting  thousands of people, has a malfunction in its sleeping chambers. As a result, two passengers awaken from their hibernation pod 90 years early. As the two individuals face living the rest of their lives on board, Jim and Aurora begin falling for each other, unable to deny their love for each other… until they discover the ship is in grave danger.

After a year of isolation, with limited food and entertainment systems available but no company except Arthur, an android bartender, Jim notices Aurora Lane in one of the pods. He watches her video profile and sees that she has a great personality, and she is a writer.

Imagine being alone on a spacecraft for a whole year while everyone else is in hibernation. Wouldn’t that person get lonely and want company? Jim struggled to make his decision choosing whether or not he should awaken Aurora. Part of him thought to not awaken her because Aurora would grow old and possibly never make it to Homestead II, but the other side of him thought he can’t be alone for another 88 years. It was the hardest decision of his life. He choose to awaken her but tells her it was another malfunction.

Aurora tries everything she can to find a way to go back to sleep but fails. She takes into consideration knowing she will spend the rest of her life with Jim.

She decides to write about her experience hoping someone will read it in the future. Since living together for a year now, they both grow closer and become lovers.

Since Passengers released on Dec. 21, 2016, the movie has made almost 60 million dollars.

There have been many good and bad reviews about Passengers.

Pratt and Lawrence are wonderful and share decent chemistry, and Sheen adds wit, but, there’s no mistaking the disturbing nature of this movie’s premise. Full review

More spectacular special effects might have helped, or at least something more creative than a spaceship that resembles a giant Christmas tree ornament shaped like a corkscrew. Perhaps as a well-written play for a cast of three, Passengers might have been first class. Instead, it’s just another mediocre thrill ride.

Passengers is full of drama, action, and sci-fi material and is great for teens and adults. Passengers definitely keeps the watcher on the edge of there seat and could even make a Passengers 2.
