School choir performs spring concert

On April 28 the varsity chorus made up of eighth and ninth graders performed at the high school for their spring concert. This will be the last junior high concert that the ninth graders will be attending.  The week of the concert the students had two after school dress rehearsals. At the dress rehearsals, students got their spots on the risers or on the stage, mics were put into their spots and the students practiced the concert programs. This year vocal ensemble performed a total of four songs and varsity chorus performed a total of eight songs.

Sing! Students prepare for the concert by practicing “Sing” by Pentatonix which the vocal ensemble performed. The song “Sing” featured Jazzmine McCauley and Ta’shay Seward as soloist and choreography.

Take a bow! Soloist Makayla Ruggery takes a bow after her solo in the song ” We are the young.” Marinah Fochler also had a solo in that song.

Sight sing! Students in chorus that are in eighth and ninth grade learn how to sight sing. Sight singing is where singers learn how to read music, memorize dynamic markings and difficult rhythms making regular singing easier.

Forte! The vocal ensemble started off the concert with the song “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay. There are a total of 18 members in vocal ensemble and approximately 200 in varsity chorus.

Round tone! At the end of the concert the varsity chorus did a surprise song “Let There Be Peace.” The varsity chorus performed it last year, but it didn’t go as planned so they performed it again this year.
