“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” -Nelson Mandela
This week’s quote is in remembrance of Nelson Mandela who died on Dec. 5, 2013. He was the president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. Mandela focused on eliminating institutionalized racism, poverty and inequality. Nelson Mandela served 27 years in prison for encouraging black South Africans to go on strike for illegally leaving South Africa. Mandela planned to overthrow the government using non-violent protests and was arrested. Although Mandela did not believe in violence, his favorite sport was boxing.

“I did not like the violence of boxing, I was more interested in the science of it-how you move your body to protect yourself,” Nelson Mandela said.
