The basketball team will be starting fall open gym for all boy basketball players that do not play a fall sport. Open gym is for all grades and anyone that wants to try out for the basketball at the junior high.  Open gym takes place in the gym from 7-9 on every Tuesday night.

“When we get there we shoot around for the first 10 minutes, then we do drills for about half an hour, and then we play pickup games for the rest of the session,” ninth grader Josh Lidwell who has been going to open gym every year since seventh grade said.

All of the different things at open gym can really help all of the basketball players get ready for tryouts.

“It helps us get ready us get ready for competition and in shape for the season,” Lidwell said.

“Playing against other people,” is what gets him ready for tryouts and the basketball season ninth grader Jimmy Luciano said.

Open gym is a lot like the actual basketball tryouts which can really help the players be prepared.

“At tryouts, like open gym we mostly do drills and play pickup games,” Luciano said which is very similar to the basketball tryouts.

The basketball players really seem to like open gym. Both Luciano and Lidwell agree that playing pickup games against all of the players are their personal favorite parts of the open gym.

The players both decided to do open gym for different reasons.

“It helps me get ready for the basketball season, it helps me get in shape and it helps me become a better ball player,” Lidwell said.

“I was not playing a fall sport and it was available to me,” Luciano said.

Open gym can help the basketball players get ready for the season.  They all seem to enjoy it and they say it helps them get ready for the season.

“It keeps me active, its fun to me, and it’s another thing to look forward to,” Lidwell said.
