We Call the Shots

The blog that tells you the qualities found in a good photo.

This week instead of showing the good qualities in photos we decided to show the bad ones. The following pictures were taken at sporting events, music concerts and school assemblies. When taking photos it is important to pay attention to lighting, focus and placement. Also, remember that not all photos are going to turn out well.

Light it up! This picture shows how lighting is important while taking pictures. When taking pictures make sure the lighting isn’t too bright but not too dim. Photo by Jolee Smith.

Although this photo is clear, the subject of the photo, the gymnast, is so far away that it is difficult to see. When taking a photo try to physically get closer instead of using zoom to avoid blurriness.
This photo has a lot of negative space, bad lighting and is at an awkward angle. In order to prevent bad lighting, use the “full auto” setting on the camera when unsure of what setting to use. This way, the camera will decide on lighting and other essentials for you.

When taking picture it is important to make sure that the picture is focused on the main point of the photo. To get better photos you should take the time to make sure that the camera is focused.
