Fangirl stands out for Rowell

February 27, 2017

One of the best authors out there is Rainbow Rowell. She has written many books for teens, but one that really stuck out is her book Fangirl.

Fangirl is about a girl named Cath who goes off to college with her twin sister, Wren. Cath has a hard time fitting in and finds it difficult to go to her classes without Wren. Cath has a slight obsession with Simon Snow books and likes to read and write fan fiction about the characters. Simon Snow is a character from the Simon Snow book series in Fangirl. As the school year goes on, she becomes closer friends with her outgoing roommate Reagan, and meets a boy named Levi. Cath and Levi’s friendship starts to grow as they learn more about each other. As the school year goes on, Wren and Cath start distance themselves from each other. Cath learns to go through school without her sister and with her new group of friends.

Rowell did an excellent job at representing anyone who knows how to freak out about something. Fangirl takes a look into a the life of a teen/young adult who still doesn’t quite know how to handle the world on her own. This story would be perfect for any teen who knows what it’s like to “fangirl” about something they love.
