What a lot of people don’t realize is that a typical race day doesn’t just happen within two hours. It takes all day. Typically the day starts at 9:00 am, and ends at 10:30 pm. The day consists of tracks walks, qualifying practices, party in the pits and many more things.
Track walks give the riders the opportunity to see what the track consists of. It gives them a heads up for when they’re actually on their bikes racing to cross the finish line before their opponents. Sometimes if spectators get a pit pass with their ticket to the race, some arenas give access to walk along the track with some of the riders.
Qualifying practices must be held for the riders to get lap times and for the fans to see how each rider is doing on that specific day. These practices can be both helpful and harmful to a rider. Some riders excel during these, but others can have wrecks causing injuries. Which keeps them from lining up on the gate that evening.
The next race is in San Diego, California on February 9, 2013.
