American Education Week has arrived, and all students are participating in a door decorating contest that reflects on the seven habits from their daily “Leader In Me” lessons.
Eighth grade science teacher and organizer for the contest, Shannon Gardner, talks about the purpose of decorating the doors.
“We wanted to give the kids a chance to explore the seven habits in a hands-on way,” Gardner said.
According to Gardner there are certain elements that a successful door includes.
“We’d want to see one of the seven habits represented with some kind of creative theme. And I’d like to see the door be more than just a sheet of paper,” Gardner said.
There will be a Google Form sent out to students and staff Monday, Nov. 20 to vote for the winners.

I didn’t really get to do any work at all for this door decorating project in my class, there were a couple kids who took over the whole project and didn’t really let anyone else pitch in their ideas or help. They weren’t really trying to work together with anyone, isn’t that kind of the opposite of what leader in me teaches?

I think we all should get rewarded because of our creativity and how we all worked together.
