- Amanda and John Garlick met in college.
“We met at Mount Aloysius in 2004 in a singing ensemble,” J. Garlick said.
A. Garlick said we then did the choral ensemble, theater productions and we had English classes. We got married in the same place we met.
A. Garlick teaches on the fourth floor while J. Garlick teaches on the second. They both teach ELA!
“I don’t see him that much because we are on different floors. I don’t see him unless either of us purposefully seeks each other out,” A. Garlick said.
J. Garlick said I know that the kids that are going to come through into eighth grade and have had a really great teacher. And I know that if I have those kids, there’s already going to be a baseline of connection there just because they know her.
John and Amanda help each other out with their jobs sometimes.
“It’s like I have a built in mentor that I can ask him questions whenever I need to. I try not to abuse him too much in that respect,” said A. Garlick.
J. Garlick said it’s nice that when I go home and am stressed out, I have somebody there who absolutely understands how I feel. I feel like it has only made our relationship closer because we have such a strong understanding of each other now.
J. Garlick thinks that there’s only one disadvantage between working with his wife.
“On hard days, when we both come home exhausted, it can be hard trying to figure out between the two of us who’s going to cook dinner or if we’re both going to cave and just order something,” J. Garlick said.
A. Garlick thinks that there is only one con too.
“A lot of people knew who I was before I even walked in the building, so even though it was like a new place to work, people almost had expectations ahead of time. Instead of making a name for myself, people already knew me,” A. Garlick said.
