Basketball is a very well known sport. A lot of people play it but not a lot of people go to the NBA or the WNBA. Have you ever wondered how their career started? Well, eighth graders Kharisma Davis, Leah Nedimyer and Brynn Plunket know how their career started…
Davis has been playing basketball for about six years and she is still playing to this day. Nedimyer has been playing for about five years and she is also still playing to this day. Plunket is still playing basketball to this day, and she has been playing for about five years too.
Davis started playing basketball as a kid because she saw older girls playing, and she thought it would be fun to try. Davis has made a lot of progress, like finishing lay ups and shooting since she was little. She said things are getting harder, like competition and staying out of her head, as she starts to grow up.
Davis’s favorite thing as a kid was being more advanced than others and spending time with her friends.
“I am going to make it to the WNBA one day,” said Davis.
Nedimyer started playing because she enjoyed being with her friend.
“I remember my first game and it was a good game because I was with my friends, and I had fun,” said Nedimyer.
Nedimyer doesn’t think she is going to make it to the WNBA, but she thinks she is going to play for a long time.
Plunket said she started playing basketball when she was little.
“I would watch the high schoolers play, and when I was little, I wanted to be like them,” said Plunket.
Plunket’s biggest struggle is trying to stay out of her head during games and Nedimyer’s biggest struggle is the same thing.
“Basketball is going well for me,” said Plunket.
Plunket’s favorite thing about basketball is traveling for the away games.
Her biggest expectation for next year is being able to shoot a three pointer constantly.
They all have been playing with each other for about three to four years. Since they were kids, they have been good, and they have a lot of chemistry when they play with each other.
Someday they will be able to accomplish whatever they want.
“ I want to play basketball for a very long time,” said Davis.
Maybe these girls will continue to play at the high school level and inspire other young girls to play the game!
