“Chromakopia” is Tyler’s deepest and most serious album, and it’s portrayed perfectly through the tracks.
This is Tyler’s eighth album and his most anticipated by far. A heads up before listening is that the album is rated E meaning explicit and listeners should consult parents before listening.
This is the standard for all his albums if you enjoy this one. He covers topics about his life that most artists would be too afraid to talk about. The songs are masterfully crafted and feature fan-favorite artists.
For example, in the song, “Like Him,” Tyler talks about how he grew up without his father, and he wishes to find him to meet him, asking, “Do I look like him?” In the climax of the song, there are backing vocals by artist Lola Young. She adds an emotional aspect on the already emotional piece from Tyler. Expressing these emotions by belting high notes on top of vocals from Tyler.
Compared to his last album, “Call me if you get lost,” which is also highly regarded by fans and critics alike, a mostly normal album in the style of Tyler without any real stories or examples of feelings like in “Chromakopia.” Even compared to what most people say is the best album from Tyler, “IGOR,” which won a Grammy for the best rap album. “IGOR,” is a fictional story with a perfect depiction through songs that make you feel what the character is feeling in the story of the album. “Chromakopia,” still feels different as instead of a made-up person it’s about Tyler and what he feels and believes.
I recommend listening to “Chromakopia,” if it interests you and if you enjoy it like many others did. I would also give his other albums a listen as they follow this same standard of quality.
Overall, I rate “Chromakopia,” a 4.5/5 stars. While I don’t believe it’s his best work, it is his most emotional and that message is conveyed perfectly through the songs.
