Wrestling is one of the hardest sports out there, but eighth grade wrestler Bryson Montgomery has been showing pure dominance with one year of experience and starting to rise to the top!
Montgomery started wrestling in seventh grade with his biggest inspiration being his father and wanting to try something new.
“I started wrestling last year because I wanted to try something new, and I ended up loving it,” Montgomery said.
The initial curiosity became a full-fledged commitment, driven by the sport’s demanding nature, and the satisfaction of hard earned victories.
“I feel like it’s very rewarding because you get what you deserve in it,” Montgomery said, highlighting the direct correlation between effort and results.
Before starting a task or something else of that nature, it’s always good to mentally prepare.
Before his matches, Montgomery has to prepare mentally for what he is going to do on the mat.
“I create a game plan for my match and try to visualize in my head what I’m going to do out there,” Montgomery said.
Some people are superstitious and have a routine that they do every time before a match.
“Before my matches, I listen to music,” Montgomery said.
In sports you might have the opportunity to move up to the next level and compete against bigger and better opponents.
Looking ahead, Montgomery has his sights set on a future in collegiate wrestling.
“Yes, I’d like to wrestle in college,” Montgomery said.
While the Olympics remain a distant dream, he doesn’t rule it out entirely.
“As for the Olympics, that’s a big step, but I would consider it,” Montgomery said.
Even though Montgomery fell short at states, he was a state qualifier this year. He still had a very good season. He is wrestled for two teams this year consisting of the schools team and the renowned Young Guns Wrestling Club, which are known for producing some of the best high school wrestlers in the country.
In the end, Montgomery went 20-7 for the school and 15-5 at duels representing Young Guns. He is still hungry to become a state placer and train even harder than before.
