SUMMARY:
Super Mario Bros, the best selling game series of all time, is not a name taken lightly. Selling over 500 million copies worldwide since the release of Super Mario Bros on the Nintendo Entertainment System, Mario games are not overlooked. Just last holiday season, Mario made a pipeway for himself into a brand new Mushroom Kingdom in Super Mario 3D World for Wii U. Scoring marvelous ratings and being the fastest selling Wii U game to date, the magic of Mario might be what’s needed to save Nintendo’s slowly drowning console and give it a fighting chance against Microsoft’s XBOX One and Sony’s PlayStation 4.

Super Mario 3D World is by far the best Wii U game to date. Beyond-stellar graphics, perfect platforming, well-fitting music and a variety of playable characters, Super Mario 3D World is a must have title for Wii U owners. As always, Mario comes with his traditional power-ups, but to toss some more interesting angles into the gameplay, Nintendo added a cat-suit, cannon and a double cherry. The cat-suit is the main focus of the game, allowing Mario and friends to crawl around different areas and receive new perspectives of the levels. The double cherry allows there to be up to five of your character on the screen at one time. The double cherry is good for collecting coins and defeating hordes of enemies. A nice extra touch is the game doesn’t just end once you defeat Bowser. A few extra worlds will become available after completing the game. Also, various hidden green stars and stamps postable to Miiverse are hidden well within levels. Another nice insert is that Super Mario 3D World adds friends to the adventure, being the first ever multiplayer 3D game in the series. A little Easter egg is hidden within the title screen as well, which permits access to playing Luigi Bros, a remake of the classic arcade game Mario Bros. The only way to get it though is to have save data from New Super Luigi. U, available for download on the Nintendo eShop.

Overall there are no major complaints for Super Mario 3D World. The title shows off just what the Wii U can do. If Nintendo keeps producing wonderful games like this, the Wii U should turn out to be a success. No big glitches or poorly textured stages have been found, so the game scores a 96/100, making it the third highest rated game this year.
