Retirement. That’s this week’s topic. Derek Jeter, shortstop for the New York Yankees, is thinking about retiring after the 2014 baseball season. Jeter, who has played for 19 seasons, says that “the time is right.”
Jeter was born in Pequannock, New Jersey on June 26, 1974. He is 39 years old. He never went to college and was drafted right out of high school. He went to Kalamazoo Central High School, where he played basketball and baseball.
Jeter is a very good player. He has 3,316 hits total just in his MLB career. He has played a total of 10,614 MLB games. Jeter is an elite player and has contributed a lot to the Yankees. He has made a major impact in the MLB.
Jeter has shown that players do not have to be the youngest person in the MLB to be good. Jeter proved himself throughout the years. Last season, he had surgery on his ankle. He is coming back from a 24 game total season. He has a long season ahead of him but he will be able to do it!
