From the excitement of rock climbing to the glazing stars at night, Ohiopyle has everything for a great family trip. People can stay in one of the hotels or have the full experience by camping. The park offers many different kinds of camping sites and some hotels riverside. The campsites are pretty reasonable, people don’t have to walk far to the bathroom because they are located all over the camping grounds.
This state park is located in southwest Pennsylvania. The Youghiogheny River passes right through the park. This feature makes the park stand out compared to other State parks. The best time to go is right after a big rainstorm because then the water level of the river is higher making kayaking and whitewater rafting a bit easier. Ohiopyle is most famous for its whitewater rafting.
White water rafting is a great family activity. Floating down the river could be a great family bonding experience. People can also kayak down the river. Once a year they have an event where people kayak down the waterfall. The event is called The Ohiopyle Falls Race. It is a great event for all ages to watch.
There is just so much to do at Ohiopyle state park other than the river. People can go hiking and biking along the 135 mile bike trails. People can sit on the dock and relax and enjoy some fishing time. Ohiopyle even offers rock climbing without any experience needed. For people who aren’t into all the sporty stuff. People can walk around and enjoy the beautiful scenery and shop at the many shops they offer.
After a long hard day of having fun there are many little shops and restaurants right there along the rivers edge. Ohiopyle Bakery and Sandwich Shop offers great, tasty and huge sandwiches. Also, the playground located near the Bakery has foam flooring so people have a little bounce in their walk. Ohiopyle is family friendly offering many activities such as camping and family rafting trips as well as educational lectures. It would be a great place to go on a family trip this summer.
