Keeping up with the trends

week 3

Jocelyn Fetter, Opinion editor

Trends are hard to keep up with, especially because in our world, they’re always changing. If you want to be able to keep up with them all, I’m here to help you. Welcome to the AAJHS version of Vogue, and the Walmart version of  beauty “guru”.

This week’s look is based around the idea of winter. It is December now, so I guess now it’s time to start preparing for the snow. Yuck! Icy roads and negative weather can be the worst, but you can put a positive spin on it. Think of it as getting to break out the cozy, comfy winter sweaters and warm, fuzzy socks along with a cup of cocoa. This week’s look is going to help you get a cozy but cute outfit for the winter.

I picked Andrea for my inspiration this week because she always has the cutest styles!

This look is a look I feel can be easily accomplished, and I am going to help you get this look.

We’re going to start from her hat, and work our way down.

Cop the look:

The hat:

I obviously couldn’t use the exact hat she was wearing in this photo, but I found one that was very similar! I chose a kind of light colored brown/ khaki looking kind of color, you’ll see what I mean in the picture. I chose Carhartt, which is a clothing brand that makes outer wear kind of clothing for people work outdoors in the colder seasons to stay warm. I wear a lot of Carhartt especially whenever I go snowboarding in the winter. If you were to buy one thing out of this entire blog, I would strongly recommend this hat because it’s cheap, and it’ll actually keep you warm.

The hair and makeup:

This really doesn’t have anything to do with the outfit, but it’s part of Andrea’s so I figured I might as well do it. The hair is very easy to accomplish. Her hair appears to be in the “beach wave” kind of aspect. To accomplish this, here’s what you need to do. Lightly soak your hair with a spray bottle of water or towel dry your hair until it’s damp after getting out of the shower. Loosely braid your hair any way you would like, I recommend a french braid or a regular braid, but don’t pull your hair tightly (if that made any sense).  Let your hair dry completely for about two hours, then take the braids out. Spray your hair with texture spray or sea salt spray to give it the extra textured feel.

For the makeup look I’m really only focused on the eye area. Her makeup look is very light toned, and very natural. She’s using a lot of really neutral and nude shades to make her sweater. First you want to start with an orange, pink or light brown shade, and you want to start putting the shade near the top of your eye near your eyebrow where the crease of your eye is. Take a blending brush, and start blending the color into your crease Then take a shadow that is about a shade lighter than the one you just used and start blending it into the bottom of your first color. Last go in with a color that’s a lot lighter than the other two shades you already used and blend that into the very bottom of all your shades. After you finally finished blending everything together, you can move onto eyeliner. I recommend a felt tipped liquid liner. You then want to draw a line across your eyelid. You then want to start drawing a line where you can do your wing. If I didn’t explain how to do this, there’s a TON of YouTube videos explaining how to do looks like this, including a couple Andrea has done.

Sweater:

Romwe is a really cool website that has a lot of trendy clothes for really cheap. This sweater looks exactly like the one that Andrea is wearing, except hers was probably like $40.

Jeans:

Jeans can be absolutely ridiculous when it comes to prices. Jeans go for at least 50-60 dollars most of the time. The best time to buy jeans is when stores have their two for the price of one or their BOGO sales. Hollister has the exact same pants that Andrea was wearing, but they were $50. These pants are almost the exact same as the ones Andrea was wearing, except they’re only $14.99!

Lastly, her shoes:

Shoes can really not be cheap sometimes. You can honestly find these kind of shoes anywhere, but these ones looked the most like the picture.

That completes the look for this week, if you enjoyed reading this and hearing what I had to say, tune in next week for more! Make sure to comment what you think, and any people you want me to recreate looks off of! !Hasta Luego!
