On patrol! K-9 Rik relaxes during his shift posing by his new police ride on a crisp night. Corporal Bennett received the public vehicle through helpful donations.

In Blair County, PA, Corporal Bennett started a support program for his K-9 partner, Rik, to help raise funds for vehicle, equipment, training and care for Blair County’s K-9 officer. Rik, a Belgian Malinois, trained as a military-police dog. Prior to meeting Rik, Corporal Bennett trained in order to receive and become fit to take care of his new guardian and partner. “Honestly, the best aspect to me about the program is that Rik and I do not appear threatening or frightening. Furthermore, it shows how much the individuals who donate appreciate their community,” said Corporal Bennett.

The program raised over $ 40,000 for a new vehicle to properly equip Rik in order to perform his duties. All donations and contributions acquired go directly to the police force and operations for K-9 Rik. Continued donations will make a big difference for any future incidents or needs. To help donate, individuals may purchase bracelets at the Blair County Courthouse, which cost only $2 each. The bracelets come in a royal blue and black color with the words, “K-9 RIK” and their mission statement, “Detect & Protect.”
