Yolo: Things to do before you die

Shae Imler running in the Altoona Invite last fall. The invite consists of a 5,000 meter race with over 12 teams competing.

Everyone may not be into running a 13.1 mile race or 26.2 mile race. I; however, want to run them both. For my last blog I want to make it personal. I am a cross country runner, and I have goals and dreams to reach with my running. I hope to one day run a marathon and a triathlon. So far I have run many 3,000 meter, 5,000 and I have run a 10,000 meter race. I have never run a half marathon or marathon, and I hope to someday.

The half marathon is only 13.1 miles so, of course my first goal is to run a half marathon. Last summer I wanted to run a half marathon but then my ACL started to tear when training for it. I was on a bike for three weeks therefore I was unable to train. I was upset but I am still young, and I said that I would just try again next summer.

Well, now I am developing tendinitis in my toes and it’s threaten any chance of me running when I am older. But, that’s not going to stop me. I have dreams of running in college and I am going to run until I physically can’t any more.

In the toes, a common form of tendinitis is sesamoiditis. Sesamoiditis is the inflammation and irritation of the tendon, joints and small sesamoid bones on the bottom of the big toe, where the big toe connects to the bones of the feet. Sesamoiditis is characterized by pain and soreness a day or two after activity that may increase in intensity over time and further use. Sesamoiditis is common in dancers and long distance runners. My doctor is still unsure whether I have this type of tendonitis. I have all of the symptoms but the pain also occurs in my second and third toes. They all stick up when inflamed and can be very painful and uncomfortable.

I can easily run a triathlon depending on  my tendinitis. I hope to run one this summer or next summer. A triathlon consists of a half mile swim, 12 mile bike ride and 3.1 mile run. I have done all of those already in my past so I would not have a problem with finishing the race. My only fear is the lake water. I have been scared of lake water for as long as I can remember. I don’t like the smell or the fact that it’s full of gross fish.

For now I still hold my dreams of running in college, running a half marathon, running a marathon and competing in a triathlon. Throughout everything I talked about over the months of blogging these will also be on the top of my list. You only live once so people should do what they love even if it gets hard sometimes.
