Running circles! For the new season of track, athletes started practicing on Monday, March 4. The new coaches can be seen coaching up their athletes.

Past track coaches have left and two new people have come to fill in their shoes. The new coaches are ninth grade social studies teacher Makenzie Negri and sixth grade educational support professional Joshua Shultz.

New head track coach Negri said, “Coach Solomon (Former Girls’ Coach) and Coach Chesney (Former Boys’ Coach) were two incredible track coaches. They had over 30 years of experience and created a fantastic program. I feel a little nervous about replacing Coach Solomon, but he did a great job preparing me last year to become the new head coach.”

Athletes need a fantastic coach to condition correctly, build stamina and encourage them to try their best.

“I am also looking forward to watching the athletes improve their times and distances, and enjoy being a part of the team,” said coach Negri.

New athletes are encouraged to join after-school activities, and it makes the coaches very happy when students reach out to try something new, like track!

“It’s always a good challenge to help athletes who are new to the sport become more comfortable with the events they are competing in. New athletes can be helpful in filling a role that will be essential to the team being able to compete throughout the season,” said coach Shultz.
