Pin to win! Eighth grader Deklan Barr places second overall in his weight and age category. Barr wrestled at 115 pounds in the 14-year-old division.

On Mar. 15-17 eighth grader Deklan Barr, seventh grader Dominic Picciotti and many other Altoona wrestlers  competed at Reading, Pa. at the Keystone States Championship.

Altoona had many achievements, but the two biggest finishes were from Barr and Picciotti. Barr earned second place and Picciotti finished with seventh place overall in their age and weight categories.

Barr has been wrestling for about eight years now and this meant a lot to him.

“It’s special to me because I worked really hard for it and all my hard work paid off,” Barr said.

Picciotti has been wrestling since he was 5-years-old.

“This means a lot to me because it was my first big achievement in junior high,” Picciotti said.

19 Altoona wrestlers attended this championship. All of the wrestlers were in different weight categories. All grades from sixth to tenth attended States.

Andie Kephart, Reporter
Hey! My name is Andie Kephart, and I'm an eighth grader and reporter for Livewire. I really enjoy writing, reporting and photography. I'm very excited to be a part of the Livewire staff. Outside of school, I enjoy doing competitive weightlifting, painting and spending time with my friends. I have been lifting for 3 years now and have competed in many national competitions  all across  the U.S.  My favorite quote that I hear coaches and teachers say is, “Give 110% in all that you do.” I try to apply this to my life in the things that I do. My future plans are to go to Penn State University and become a physical therapist.
