The girls volleyball team added to its winning record with a victory over Huntingdon last night. The A team won by scores of 22-25, 25-16, 15-12. The B team won 25-19, 25-22. The team is back in action tonight at Hollidaysburg at 4:00.
In the Battle of Blair County last Thursday, the Altoona Lady Lions faced off against their fierce rivals, the Hollidaysburg Tigers, in an intense back-and-forth contest. Morgan Irwin struck first for Altoona, assisted by Nara Harzbecker, followed by a second goal from Evie Irwin to give Altoona a 2-0 lead. However, the Tigers fought back, scoring before halftime to make it 2-1. In the second half, Evie Irwin extended Altoona’s lead to 3-1, but Hollidaysburg showed resilience, netting two quick goals to tie the game 3-3 with under four minutes left. Just when it seemed like the game would end in a draw, Natalie Bumbarger stepped up and launched a stunning 30-yard shot with only eight seconds left, securing a 4-3 victory for Altoona.
Then last evening, the Lady Lions hosted the Bellefonte Red Raiders. Bellefonte’s early goal was like a false start in a race—they fired out of the gate, but it only fueled the Lady Lions’ drive. Once Natalie Bumbarger launched her 30-yard rocket, it was as if the Lady Lions found their rhythm, turning the field into their domain. Morgan Irwin assisted Elsie Behe to make it 2-1, and Leah Connolly set up Evie Irwin to close out the first half with a 3-1 lead. In the second half, Leah Connolly once again found Elsie Behe for a 4-1 advantage. Evie Irwin then assisted Chloe Jones for a 5-1 score. Solo goals by Maura Farabaugh, Brynn Buchanan, and Leah Nedimyer sealed the dominant 8-1 victory.
The Lady Lions are now 11-1-3 with just two games remaining on their schedule. Good luck girls!
