Leggings, short shorts and tank tops are just some of the clothing items banned from this school.

It is very hard for girls to find clothing that is acceptable under the student code of conduct.

‘’No. We aren’t allowed to wear yoga pants or leggings because of boys and their immature minds. Boys really have no limits on their dress code. We should be able to wear shorter shorts because most shorts made for girls are not made to the knee,‘’ Alexis Evans said.

Students will be in school up until June 17, the temperatures outside will begin to rise and the shorts will start coming out. Unfortunately, unless the shorts are down to the knee, they aren’t acceptable. Finding shorts sold that are knee length are rare, so most girls are choosing just to wear jeans. Boys on the other hand, don’t have that sort of problem with shorts. The typical khaki shorts go to the knee. Girls shouldn’t have to come to school in jeans because their shorts aren’t to the knee. If the shorts are reasonably close to the knee and or covering up everything, they shouldn’t be such a problem in school.

One of the many said reasons that girls can’t wear these things is because it’s a ‘’distraction’’ to guys. That’s ridiculous because it’s telling girls to hide their bodies and not express themselves. It’s one thing if a girl dyed her hair bright pink, but wearing a tank top shouldn’t be as much of  a distraction as hair.

Spaghetti strapped tank tops aren’t allowed in school either, but girls should be able to at least wear a shoulder tank top that is about two fingers length. That gives girls some coverage yet still allows them to wear tank tops.

Female students that never get into any trouble seem to keep getting in trouble for their dress code violations. On the other hand, some girls aren’t getting in trouble that keep violating the code, while another girl violates it once and gets into trouble.

Dresses and skirts have been a recent problem as well. The length of some of the girls’ dresses are getting shorter, but it’s not necessarily the girl’s fault. They see a cute dress in the store; they try it on, it looks great and makes them feel great. Why take that confidence away from her? Girls need confidence and need to be able to feel comfortable in their own bodies.

For the reason that guys get distracted isn’t a good enough reason to take away the confidence of girls. Who’s to say that by the way that guys dress isn’t distracting to girls. The student dress code needs to be more evenly fair. Girls deserve to express themselves and be confident, not hide their bodies and feel like they need to because it’s a ‘’distraction.’’
