This Week’s Topic: Settlers of Catan

Settlers of Catan takes place on an unknown island where players attempt to control most of the island through creating towns and having an  abundance of resources.

Genreal overview of how the game is played

Settlers of Catan is played on a hexagonal board  with each player (3-6 players) starting at one side of the board. Players gather resources by staking claim to the different pieces of land with the different resources. These resources include brick, lumber, wool, grain and ore. These resources will be used in trade and building towns. Depending on the expansion pack, some resources will be used more than others.

Where the game can be found

The base game can be found at most major retailers and at local game stores. Also like most things it can be found at the game’s website and on Amazon.

My thoughts

Settlers of Catan is a great game to play with other friends. While not a great game to play with the family because of the large learning curve involved, if the family is willing to learn it can be a great time. Also, the game is great since it does not rely on luck instead of chance but allows more strategy than luck.

My Recommendation

I would recommend this game to anyone who is tired of the average board game and loves a bit of strategy. Also those who like long play sessions will love this game.
