Hello! I’m Cassidy, a writer for the Altoona Area Junior High school newspaper! I am a ninth grade and academic student. Ever since I was young, I’ve enjoyed writing. Whether I was writing a fairy tale or an essay, I’ve loved to create a story . I play for the AAJHS basketball team and outside of school I’m a very artistic person. You can always find me drawing, painting or sculpting. I am also a part of the AAJHS choir! I am overjoyed about having the opportunity to be able to write for our school paper, not only because of how fun and exciting the class is, but also because I can expand my writing abilities to a more professional level.

How do you feel about the change coming next year that will transform the high school to a 9-12 grade school much like many other high schools across the country?

'This new change is going to bring many new big changes to our school for everyone including the teachers. I don't think it is going to bring as much good as our school board thinks it is going too. I think it is just going to bring much more stress to the current high school students to run around multiple buildings a day. I also feel it is going to be even worse for kids in sixth grade moving into a new bigger building based on some kids maturity levels,” ninth grader Maura Kiser said.

“I feel that most kids it will be great for. Some kids in lower grades are already mature and responsible enough to deal with all the more schoolwork and social interaction you get in junior high school. On the other hand, some kids need to build up much more maturity before they get to a bigger school with stricter rules and harder class subjects. Over all I don't understand why they would change a system that was already working just the way it was,” eighth grader Kevin Hann said.

“I think this change will affect all of the student body positively. This change will teach kids to grow up at a younger age and start getting them on the right track for life sooner. I think it is going to make kids take on more responsibility and make our school run a lot smoother as soon as everyone gets adjusted to the change,” ninth grader Aiden Evearhart said.

“As an athlete, I feel that it would positively affect my fellow freshman athletes because many of us play in a varsity sport already. In my opinion, it would be much easier to leave for the away games if you’re in the same building as the rest of your teammates,” ninth grader Taylor Lane said.

“I don't think it is a very good idea. Our school works perfectly the way that we have been doing it for years. It is just too expensive and makes no sense to build a whole new school and use the money we could be using for activities for our students and to buy new educational websites,” ninth grader Taylor Weston said.

Music To My Ears! On Sept. 4th, Mason Walk and Tristin Socie listen intently to their teacher, Mr Kent Martin, as he teaches his students the proper way to tone a guitar in music class. The boys have been taking this class for only two weeks, and they were very excited to hear they were going to be playing the guitar in his class.

Art Class On Sept. 5th, Kelly Terrebonne and Zoey Dunkle are painting their assignments on tints and shades in Mr. John King's art classroom.
