Communities all around celebrating President’s Day

The date of Feb. 17 started a four day break composed of the all school dance which was held on Feb. 16 and President’s Day which was celebrated on Feb. 20.

This break isn’t just for the teachers and students to be off from school, but it is for the remembrance of all the President’s birthdays.

President’s Day started after President George Washington’s death on December 14, 1799. George Washington’s actual birthday isn’t until February which led people to postpone the celebration of Presiden’t Day until the third Monday in February.

Teachers and students have different thoughts and feelings about this break.

“Well I am happy to have days off from school and thankful for the President’s service,” ninth grade student Chloe Fisher said.

“I believe the break is a good time to relax and reflect on the impact of various presidents on our nation,” seventh grade world geography teacher Rocco Depiro lll said.

“I think being off for President’s day is good to celebrate the president’s birthday’s and since it’s such a nice day we get to spend time with our family and friends,” eighth grade student Madison Detwiler said.

After the break, students will return to finish the third marking period.

“They usually do pretty well because it is close to parent-teacher conferences which is usually a motivation to do well,” eighth grade teacher James O’Donnell said.

“I think we seem to work a lot better after we come back from break just because we got that little break in all of the piles of work and everyone seems to get a better grip on everything,” eighth grade student Chastity Brunner said.

“We all get more lazy in a way because we had so much time to just lay around and do nothing,” ninth grade student Allison Myers said.

Having this break students and teachers have time off to relax with their family and friends.

“I am going to San Francisco, but I am leaving my kids behind because they are no fun,” Good said.

“Probably visit my twin daughters who are in college and spend time with my family,” Palfey said.

“I am going to try to not go on Twitter with all the people bashing Trump and at the same time get updates on the band members Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson from One Direction,” ninth grade student Brooke Del Biondo said.
