As the winter season approaches, temperatures start to drop, and snow starts to fall. As it gets colder, there are still students that have to walk to school. Students should not have to walk to school. All students should be provided with transportation to and from school even if they live close. The school should provide transportation so students don’t have to walk.

The first reason why students should not have to walk to school is because of the temperature. Since it is winter right now that means the temperatures are getting lower. Recently, the temperatures have been below freezing and have even gotten into the negatives. Some days school is cancelled, but some days it’s not. These days can be very cold and students that have to walk are exposed to these temperatures. This could possibly eliminate the need for school closures since no student would be exposed to cold temperatures while walking. Students should definitely not have to walk in these temperatures just to get to school.

Another reason why students should not have to walk to school is because of potential endangerment. Students who live too close to the school have to walk to school running the risk of getting hit by a car, getting kidnapped or harassed. If a student walks to school, they are obviously going to be walking semi close to a road. Since they are so close to a road, there is a risk of them being hit if a driver doesn’t see them. A student could also be in danger when walking if he or she runs into a threatening person. This is always a possibility and a student could end up being harassed or potentially kidnapped. This is just another reason why school transportation should be provided for all students.

The third reason why a student should not have to walk to school is because they may not make it to school on time. Everyone knows that a bus or car is faster than walking pace. If all students were provided with transportation it may decrease the number of students who come in late.

This is why all students should be provided transportation to the school. No student should have to walk to school. Although this may cost slightly more money, the lives and protection of students are far more important. It would be much safer for students if the school provided transportation to all students.
