It’s the first dance of the ninth grade year- the Sweetheart’s dance. The dance that can be viewed as a fun get together with friends, but for some people it’s embarrassing and pointless. The embarrassing and pointless part comes in for the kids that don’t have a date. Some people don’t mind going alone, but my opinion is that going alone is better. That doesn’t mean alone as in by yourself, that means going with a group of friends.

Most people will end up going with a group of friends. That is my favorite part about the dance. I love spending time with my friends. Some people have the idea that the Sweetheart’s dance is for people with dates only, and anyone without a date shouldn’t even go.  A few months before the dance, friends are already aware of what group they are going with.

Waiting until the last minute to find some friends isn’t a problem either. Most of the night is spent mingling  and not just with one particular group. Sometimes finding a date can be pretty competitive, especially between girls. Girls normally want to go with their crush, but if that boy already has a date or a girlfriend then there is going to be some problems. In order to resolve that problem, try getting everyone in a group together. It’ll be more fun.

If a person doesn’t have a date to the dance, don’t fret over it. In my overall opinion, going without a date to the dance will allow you to have a better time.
